What We Do

Victim Services Bruce Grey (VSBG) is a community-based organization that provides critical support to individuals affected by crime, tragic circumstances, or disasters in Bruce and Grey Counties.

We work closely with emergency services, community partners, and government agencies to ensure victims receive timely and compassionate assistance. Below is a detailed overview of their key functions and services:

Core Services

  1. Crisis Intervention

    • Immediate emotional support for individuals experiencing trauma due to crime, sudden death, or other emergencies.
    • On-scene assistance in collaboration with police, fire, and paramedic services.
  2. Practical Assistance

    • Help with risk assessment, safety planning and system navigation.
    • Assistance with navigating the aftermath of violent incidents and accessing emergency funds.
  3. Information and Referrals

    • Guidance on victims’ rights, the justice system, and community resources.
    • Referrals to counseling, legal aid, financial assistance programs, and other specialized services.
  4. Advocacy

    • Support for victims in navigating systemic processes and procedures.
    • Advocacy for policy improvements to enhance victim support services.
  5. Community and Multi-Victim Response

    • Coordinating support for groups or communities affected by major incidents, such as natural disasters or large-scale tragedies.
    • Collaboration with emergency management teams for disaster response.

Core Programs

Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario (VCAO)
VCAO provides emotional support and practical assistance to victims and survivors of crime and tragic circumstances, throughout Bruce and Grey Counties, at the request of police and emergency service personnel.

Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP)
The VQRP offers financial aid for victims facing immediate costs such as funeral expenses, emergency travel, crime scene cleanup, and short-term counseling. This program ensures victims receive prompt support to manage their urgent needs during the recovery process.

Project Lifesaver (PLS)
Project Lifesaver is a community-based program that provides tracking technology for individuals at risk of wandering due to conditions like Alzheimer’s, autism, or other cognitive impairments. The program helps ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals by enabling quick location and rescue if they become lost.
