Project Lifesaver
The Project Lifesaver program, delivered by Victim Services Bruce Grey (VSBG) in partnership with local police services and community partners, provides an innovative and life-saving service for vulnerable individuals across Bruce and Grey County.
The program supports individuals who are at risk of wandering due to cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, autism, or other developmental disabilities. Its primary goal is to enhance safety and reduce search times during emergencies.
How It Works
Enrollment:
Participants are enrolled through VSBG, which assesses their needs and suitability for the program.
Personalized Tracking Devices:
Enrolled individuals are equipped with a lightweight, waterproof radio-frequency transmitter worn on the wrist or ankle. Each device emits a unique signal that can be tracked by trained search-and-rescue teams.
Emergency Response:
If a participant goes missing, caregivers alert local authorities, who deploy search teams equipped with Project Lifesaver tracking technology.
Training and Support:
Police and community partners receive specialized training on using the tracking equipment and interacting sensitively with individuals experiencing cognitive challenges.
